On Friday, April 11th, at 7PM, the United Congregational Church of Haddam and Higganum will host New York City–based Exponential Ensemble in a program of chamber music for woodwinds. This evening concert is sponsored by Candlewood Farm Arts Foundation and is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 PM.
Musical selections will feature some of the greatest works for woodwinds by French and American composers such as Valerie Coleman and Jean Françaix, as well as newly commissioned work by Brad Balliett, a New York–based composer and active birder inspired by the birdsong of Central Park. The program will showcase the Ensemble’s woodwind players: Anna Urrey (flute), Kemp Jernigan (oboe), Pascal Archer (clarinet) and Joshua Butcher (bassoon).
About Exponential Ensemble:
Founded in 2011 by clarinetist Pascal Archer, Exponential Ensemble is a New York City–based mixed chamber music ensemble. Comprised of performers and teaching artists, the Ensemble’s mission includes commissioning and premiering works by living composers inspired by math, science and literacy, and curating interactive educational programs using music as a way to connect with school curricula. Educational programs are delivered to organizations such as Music for Autism, the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, and New York City public schools, amongst others. In 2024, Exponential Ensemble premiered its debut album, Matters of Time, featuring commissioned works inspired by science.
